About me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has deep compassion for working with people from within the African American culture. I have been in the counseling field for over 20 years, working within the New Haven Board of Education, Achievement First Charter School, and community mental health agencies.  I have a natural gift for working with children and adolescents.  My education began at Charter Oak State College, where I obtained my Associate’s and Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Forensic science. Later I attended Albertus Magnus College to earn my Masters’s in Human Services.

Growing up in New Haven, I have always loved helping others recognize their value and potential in life. Becoming a counselor began after experiencing Racial Trauma. My high school counselor told me that Black people were not smart enough to attend college. From that experience and many more, I knew I wanted to combat the ignorance and injustices faced by others, against myself and those of my race. I am passionate about helping those understand the depth in which therapy is a gift for all.

Deciding that I wanted to work in the Mental Health field, I enrolled in the Professional Counseling/ED. S program at Seton Hall University, graduating in 2019. In my work with adults, I realized that many of my clients struggle with dual diagnoses of mental health and substance abuse issues. I decided to return to school and become more educated in substance. I enrolled at Gateway Community College in the Drug and Alcohol Recovery Counseling “DARC” program. I received my certification in 2021. I also have a certification as a life coach. I consider myself a lifelong student!!

What I love most about being a mental health professional are the clients, as each client is an individual with different struggles. I do not have a cookie-cutter type therapy style, and I meet each client where they are. This allows me and my client to work at a most beneficial pace to the client. I make it a point to create an authentic relationship, listen, and validate my client’s needs.

I look forward to working with every one of you as your Therapist and Guide to Freedom!!!!
